Since its conception in 2010, Dave Buker & the Historians has maintained a consistent core, even through several lineup and aesthetic changes. In a live sense, the band consists of Dave Buker (vocals, guitar), Joe Spurlock (drums, percussion, vocals), Paul Valdiviez (piano, organ, vocals), Leanna Stansell (vocals, keyboard, guitar, percussion), and Tim Jennings (bass). However, What Can Bring You Back To Me? marks a broader approach for the band and features the multi-instrumental talents of several members. It also features contributions from violinist Jenna Barvitski and saxophonist Jackson Menkedick.
From the Staci Leech-Cornell designed album artwork to the honesty of songs like “When You Go”, “Picture Frame” and “Forever & Always”, What Can Bring You Back To Me? reflects the band’s craft. Dave Buker & the Historians strives to create songs that have as much appeal individually as they do in context. In the case of What Can Bring You Back To Me?, the context of lost love and genuine hope has come to embody the emotion of the band both live and on recordings. Perhaps ACRN said it best, “(Dave Buker & the Historians) has created a folky pop album with indie roots and an undeniable undercurrent of absolute sincerity.”
